Background of the study
Antimicrobial resistance is a growing problem worldwide, and new antibiotics are urgently needed. Metal complexes have been shown to have antimicrobial activity against a wide range of bacteria. This study investigated the synthesis, characterization, and antibacterial activity of copper(II) and nickel(II) metal complexes of two antibiotics, ciprofloxacin and amoxicillin.
Introduction
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that is also used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Metal complexes of ciprofloxacin and amoxicillin have been shown to have enhanced antimicrobial activity compared to the free antibiotics. This study investigated the synthesis, characterization, and antibacterial activity of copper(II) and nickel(II) metal complexes of ciprofloxacin and amoxicillin.
