The molecular weight of a polymer significantly impacts its solution viscosity. Higher molecular weight polymers tend to entangle more readily, leading to increased resistance to flow and therefore higher viscosity. This is because longer polymer chains have a larger hydrodynamic volume, occupying more space in solution and interacting more with surrounding molecules. In general, viscosity increases with increasing polymer concentration and molecular weight.
