Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are materials that exhibit both the elasticity of rubber and the processability of thermoplastics. They combine the advantages of both material types: the flexibility and resilience of rubber and the moldability and recyclability of thermoplastics. TPEs consist of two distinct phases: a hard, rigid phase (often a thermoplastic polymer) and a soft, rubbery phase (typically a block copolymer or a mixture of elastomer and a plasticizer). The combination of these phases provides the unique properties of TPEs. They are commonly used in a wide range of applications, including automotive parts, toys, footwear, and medical devices.
