Frequently Asked Question

Questions asked by users might not always be phrased in the clearest way.

FeO + HNO

Accepted Answer

The reaction of iron(II) oxide (FeO) with nitric acid (HNO₃) is a redox reaction. The iron(II) ions are oxidized to iron(III) ions while the nitrate ions are reduced to nitrogen dioxide (NO₂). The balanced chemical equation for the reaction is:
3FeO + 10HNO₃ → 3Fe(NO₃)₃ + NO₂ + 5H₂O
