One way to chemically prove which test tube contains cyclohexane and which contains cyclohexene is to perform a bromine test. Cyclohexene readily undergoes an addition reaction with bromine, while cyclohexane does not. To perform the test, add a few drops of bromine water to each test tube. If the solution in one of the test tubes turns brown, then that test tube contains cyclohexene. If the solution in both test tubes remains colorless, then both test tubes contain cyclohexane.
