Frequently Asked Question

Questions asked by users might not always be phrased in the clearest way.

What are subshells.

Accepted Answer

Subshells are groups of orbitals within an electron shell of an atom. Each subshell is characterized by a unique value of the angular momentum quantum number, (l). The (l) values range from (0) to (n-1), where (n) is the principal quantum number of the shell. The subshells are commonly denoted by the letters (s), (p), (d), (f), and (g), corresponding to (l) values of (0), (1), (2), (3), and (4), respectively.
