Boiling point is the temperature at which the vapour pressure of a liquid equals the pressure surrounding the liquid and the liquid changes into a vapour. The boiling point of a liquid decreases with decrease in pressure. This is because at a lower pressure, there are fewer gas molecules hitting the surface of the liquid and therefore fewer molecules are able to escape into the gas phase.
