What is a thermocouple (long question)

Accepted Answer

A thermocouple is a device that measures temperature by exploiting the Seebeck effect. It consists of two dissimilar metal wires joined at one end. When the junction is heated, a voltage is generated between the other ends of the wires. The magnitude of the voltage is proportional to the temperature difference between the junction and the other ends of the wires.
