Chemiluminescence is the emission of light as a result of a chemical reaction. In this process, energy released from the reaction excites molecules to a higher energy state. As these excited molecules return to their ground state, they emit photons of light. A common example is the glow stick, where the reaction of a chemical with a dye produces light.
