The Lewis structure of NH3 (ammonia) has a central nitrogen atom with three hydrogen atoms attached to it. Nitrogen has five valence electrons, and each hydrogen has one. The nitrogen atom forms three single covalent bonds with the three hydrogen atoms, leaving one lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom. This results in a tetrahedral electron geometry, but a trigonal pyramidal molecular geometry due to the lone pair repelling the bonding pairs.
