Why alkane also known as paraffin

Alkanes are also known as paraffins because they are non-reactive, meaning they do not readily react with other compounds. The name paraffin comes from the Latin phrase parum affinis, which means "having little affinity". Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons, meaning they have only single bonds between their carbon atoms. This makes them very stable and unreactive.
