WHY do METALS CONDUCT ELECTRICITY

Metals conduct electricity because they have free electrons that can move throughout the metal. These free electrons are not bound to any particular atom, so they can easily move from one atom to another. When an electric field is applied to a metal, these free electrons are accelerated in the direction of the field, which creates an electric current.
