Fructose enters glycolysis at a different point than glucose. It is first phosphorylated by fructokinase to fructose-1-phosphate. This is then cleaved by aldolase B into glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate. Both of these molecules are intermediates in the glycolytic pathway. Therefore, fructose has two entry points into glycolysis because it can be processed through the aldolase B pathway, bypassing the initial steps of glucose metabolism.
