Frequently Asked Question

Questions asked by users might not always be phrased in the clearest way.

Why is the oxidising power of conc H2SO4 strong than dil H2SO4

Accepted Answer

Concentrated sulfuric acid is a stronger oxidizing agent than dilute sulfuric acid because it has a higher concentration of H+ ions. H+ ions are oxidized in the reaction with H2SO4 to produce H2O and SO42-. The higher the concentration of H+ ions, the more likely they are to be oxidized, and the stronger the oxidizing power of the acid.
