Induced dipole - induced dipole interactions occur between nonpolar molecules. Examples of such compounds include methane (CH₄), ethane (C₂H₆), and hexane (C₆H₁₄). These interactions are caused by the temporary polarization of the electron cloud of one molecule due to the presence of another molecule, which induces a dipole in the second molecule. The strength of these interactions is proportional to the polarizability of the molecules involved.
