A hydrogen bond is an attractive interaction between a hydrogen atom from a molecule or molecular fragment X-H in which X is more electronegative than H, and an atom or group of atoms in the same or different molecule, in which there is evidence of bond formation. Examples include hydrogen fluoride (HF), water (H2O), and ammonia (NH3), all of which form strong hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonds are also found in many biological molecules, such as proteins and nucleic acids, and play important roles in their structure and function.
