The electronic spectrum of [Cr(H2O)6]2+ would show four peaks. This is due to the d-orbital splitting in the octahedral complex. Chromium(II) has a d4 electron configuration. In an octahedral field, the d orbitals split into two sets: the lower energy t2g set (dxy, dyz, dzx) and the higher energy eg set (dx2-y2, dz2). The four peaks correspond to the transitions between these energy levels: 4A2g → 4T2g, 4A2g → 4T1g, 4A2g → 2T2g, and 4A2g → 2Eg.
