Thiols are stronger acids than alcohols because the sulfur atom in thiols is more electronegative than the oxygen atom in alcohols. This means that the sulfur atom can better stabilize the negative charge on the conjugate base of the thiol, making it a stronger acid. In contrast, the oxygen atom in alcohols is less electronegative and cannot stabilize the negative charge as well, making alcohols weaker acids.
