How is adsorption chromatography different then partition chromatography

Accepted Answer

In adsorption chromatography, the stationary phase is a solid adsorbent, such as alumina or silica gel. The mobile phase is a liquid or gas that does not interact with the stationary phase. The components of the mixture to be separated are adsorbed onto the stationary phase to different extents, depending on their affinity for the adsorbent. In partition chromatography, the stationary phase is a liquid that is immiscible with the mobile phase. The components of the mixture to be separated are partitioned between the two phases, depending on their solubility in each phase.
